Lesson 79. The Instrumental: 'with whom? with what?'

The Instrumental (Творительный) answers the question “with whom? with what?”. It is used:

Tools and instruments: Pišem olovkom. (I write with a pen).
Companionship with the preposition sa: Idem sa bratom. (I go with my brother).
Time: leti, zimom (in summer, in winter).
Prepositions of place: pred, nad, pod, za, među (in front of, above, below, behind, among).

Sečem nožem. (Сечем ножем.)

— I cut with a knife.

Idem sa sestrom. (Идем са сестром.)

— I go with my sister.

Pred kućom. (Пред кућом.)

— In front of the house.
