Lesson 121. Past tense (perfect): introduction
Serbian has one universal past tense — the perfect (perfekat). It matches the English simple past (“I worked”, “I read”).
How it is formed
Ja sam radio. (Ја сам радио.)
— I worked. (m.)
Ja sam radila. (Ја сам радила.)
— I worked. (f.)
On je čitao. (Он је читао.)
— He read.
Ona je čitala. (Она је читала.)
— She read.
Just like in Russian: “I worked (m.) / I worked (f.)” — the form depends on the speaker’s gender.
